The Legal
Instrument establishing the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (i.e.
Federal Government Act No. 39 of 1973 now Cap. 6, Vol. 1; LFN 1990) specifically
authorized the Board of the College “to establish and maintain a Library”. By
this authority, the Collage Library came into existence with the appointment of
the pioneer librarian in 1978. Since its inception, the Library has grown from
the accessioning of the first book in 1978 to a book collection of about 30,000
volumes,
14,000 volumes of theses and dissertations submitted by participants on various
college courses, with various government publications from Federal, State, Local
Government, governmental agencies and parastatals.
The Library subscribes to 259 serial titles and has an impressive collection of
Press Clippings for research and consultation. ASCON Library has been automated
since 1992 and has been placed on the Information Superhighway by its connection
to the Internet. The Library is an institutional member of various national and
international bodies.
